Fitness In Time - Winchester

Dear Members,

I write to you today with the heaviest of hearts.

We are soon expecting the Government to lift the ban on Gyms in the UK, however, It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Fitness In Time Winchester will unfortunately not be returning in the short term.  As I’m sure you can understand, COVID-19 has been ruthless, particularly on the leisure industry.  It was not something that could have been anticipated, planned for, or, avoided.  Further to this, our landlord has now given us notice to vacate the premises on City road with the intention to redevelop the site.  Alderman House has been the faithful site of FIT for many years, however it is in much need of improvements, and it has not gone unnoticed that either side are 4-story apartment buildings, and so the inevitable has finally happened.

When I took over the gym in 2014, it was clear that there was a huge challenge in front of me. It had defaulted on many bills for several months and was facing eviction; the gym was out-dated and in need of refurbishment and the previous owner, in a desperate attempt to pay off these bills had slashed prices for a short-term income, which simply was not viable.  To put it very bluntly, if I had not signed the contract on the day I did, the business would have closed the very next day.  However, I could see that it had a community of dedicated member and some simply fantastic staff who are still here today.  Their tireless work and commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of the ladies of Winchester, cannot be regarded highly enough and we all owe them a huge amount of gratitude.

As I hope you will understand, I have been working to try and find a resolution, with the current landlords, and potential new premises, but unfortunately I have come up short.  I have given absolutely everything to FIT Winchester.  Not just the many thousands of pounds spent on it, but countless nights spent in a sleeping bag in the office (I’d work until 11pm and then sleep in the office before running to River Park for a shower before opening the gym at 8am the next morning) So I hope you understand that no one is more devastated by this news than me.

I will continue to search for a new Winchester premises so that we can reopen and continue to provide the incredible service to the women of Winchester that we always have.  If you know of suitable premises, please do get in touch with me.

Our aim has always been to show that exercise is for everyone, something I hope you will have seen first hand.  We always wanted to create an environment for women to feel comfortable in, and experience the benefits that a healthy lifestyle can give you.  We implore you to continue your fitness journey, keep moving and take care of yourselves.  Never has public health been more important and relevant than it is today.

My final word must go to our incredible team.  Debbie, Sandra, Pam & Abbi, not to mention previous staff, all of whom, have been simply wonderful.  Each day working with them has been an absolute joy and I, along with our members, will be forever grateful to them.

Thank you for your support over the years, and please keep exercising.

Kind regards

Peter
